Tie Guan Yin Oolong tea is grown in the Fujian province in China. There are a number of grades based on harvest and roasting time and this premium Tie Guan Yin  yields a sweet taste with a fragrant finish which makes it a very popular choice.

Tie Guan Yin translates as Iron Goddess of Mercy and Guan Yin is an aspect of Avalokiteshvara the Bodhisattva of compassion.

The naming of the tea is linked to several legends "Wei" and "Wang". The Wang legend is as follows:

Wang was a scholar who discovered the tea plant beneath the Guanyin rock in Xiping, Anxi County. He brought the plant back home to cultivate the cuttings. When he visited the Imperial Court of the Qianlong Emperor (5th Emperor of the Qing Dynasty) in 1740, he offered the tea as a gift from his native village. The emperor was so impressed that he inquired about its origin. Since the tea was discovered beneath the Guanyin Rock, the Emperor decided to call it the Guanyin tea.
